ADVERTISEMENTS:
This article will help you to learn about the rock cycle with diagram.
The change of one rock into another type under different conditions of heat, pressure, weathering and erosion is known as rock cycle. Initially, all minerals originated from igneous rocks. As soon as igneous rocks are exposed they are weathered and eroded by various agents. The materials change into sedimentary rocks.
In course of time, due to heat and pressure these two types of rocks transformed into metamorphic rock. The sedimentary and metamorphic rocks again may be buried deep down, they may become molten and may transform into igneous rock. In this way, the process of changing one form to another becomes cyclic.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
There are two sources of energy to accomplish the cycle. First one is the heat within the earth to melt the solid rock and the second one is the solar energy to disintegrate and decompose the rock on the earth’s surface. Thus, throughout the thousands and millions of years, the rocks have been changing from one form into another through rock cycle.
